This BCS Edinburgh Branch meeting comprises a couple of short talks of
particular interest to members (and potential members!) of the BCS Young
Professionals Group. Not-so-young professionals are also most welcome!
Career Builder (new BCS member service)
Sheelagh Flowerday
Of course you plan your systems development projects, don't you? But what
about your own personal, professional and career development? BCS CPD provides
the conceptual framework and its Career Builder software provides the tools to
do it successfully. This short talk will describe them. The rest is up to you!
About the speaker
Sheelagh Flowerday is the Chief Inspector for the BCS's accredited career
development schemes and also a member of the small team of BCS professional
development consultants.
How Graduates for Growth can help you
Lorna Pellet, Graduates for Growth
The aim of Graduates for Growth (GfG) is to attract and retain graduates in
Scotland and hence contribute to the Scottish economy. We do this through
recruitment, mentoring and training.
During this presentation, we will outline our purpose, demystify the
recruitment process and offer advice on gaining your ideal job.
The presentation is backed with case studies of recent IT graduates gaining
employment in our local businesses.
About the speaker
In 1989,
Lorna started a company called Patisserie Florentin which traded in retail,
manufacturing and distribution of food products. During this time, she was
nominated as Business Woman of the year. Nine years on, and with a turn over
of £1m+, she sold the company. She then ventured into consulting MDs of small
and medium size enterprises (SMEs) across a variety of sectors throughout the
Central belt. She is now Director of Graduates for Growth and have the vision
to take the programme throughout Scotland to provide graduate skills to
cottage and micro businesses as well as medium sized businesses.
Social Initiative Experience. Set up communications strategy for
prospective MSP. Set up Business Strategy Group for Shelter, with the aim
of harnessing good relationships between the charitable and corporate sectors. |
