The Sidney Michaelson Memorial Lecture

Convicted by Computer

Mr Clive Carmichael-Jones, Operations Director Vogon International

Sunday 13th April 2003, 2 pm

Royal Museum, Chambers Street, Edinburgh

Every computer system has a hidden history: hard to access, hard to erase. Enter the computer investigator. With awareness of Internet crime increasing and a growing number of court cases relying on crucial computer evidence, what exactly can computer investigators find? Clive Carmichael-Jones of Vogon International asks whether public expectations are realistic. What can sensibly be recovered in a computer investigation and what problems are forensic experts likely to face on current and future cyber trails?

Arranged in association with the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

Admission is by ticket only. Complimentary tickets are available from the Branch Committee with priority to BCS Branch members – send an e-mail to Peter King (pjbk@macs.hw.ac.uk) to book.

Tickets may also be purchased from the EISF Box Office at £6 (£4 concessions). See www.sciencefestival.co.uk/buy_tickets.htm or telephone 0131 473 2070.

This lecture is organised annually by the Edinburgh Branch of the British Computer in memory of Sidney Michaelson, Professor of Computer Science at Edinburgh University from 1966 to 1991. Click here for a short biography of Professor Sidney Michaelson.
