Webinar: Design, build and testing of the world’s fastest car: Bloodhound LSRAn engineering adventure…Wednesday 3rd February 2021, 7:00 pm. Speaker: Dr Ben Evans, Associate Professor, Engineering, Swansea University Online SynopsisOver a decade ago a small team of British engineers set out to design the fastest car on the planet and break the World Land Speed Record. Swansea University was invited to take the lead on the aerodynamic design of the car which would become known as ‘Bloodhound’. In this lecture Dr Evans will outline how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to overcome some of the aerodynamic design challenges during in the decade of design optimisation. The lecture will outline the CFD and computational optimisation approaches that were developed for Bloodhound and give insight into how these methods are now being used in more conventional engineering applications. The lecture will also outline how the car was manufactured and provide details on how the car performed during the high speed testing campaign in South Africa, 2019. This was the precursor to a Land Speed Record attempt which is scheduled for 2022. About the speaker
