Currently, there is a prevalent belief that Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) will have a profound impact upon socio-economic relations in the same way that the Industrial revolution before it had. While one can reasonably predict the shape of things to come in terms of future hardware & software developments, the wider sociological, social and political opportunities and repercussions associated with such developments remains largely unexplored. This talk will expound on attempts in Craigmillar to harness ICTs and the power of the emerging information society for community advantage.
